Charlotte Tragard: Ogunquit Heritage Museum Curator

Anchor Real Estate

Charlotte Tragard’s roots run deep in the town of Ogunquit, Maine. Her family’s connection to this charming seaside town began in 1910 when her maternal grandparents, George and Frances Towar, first arrived. Over the years, the Towar family became an integral part of the community, with Charlotte’s mother, Margaret "Fishie" Towar, marrying John "Jack" Tragard at the Cliff Country Club in 1950. Charlotte, the youngest of four children, grew up with a strong sense of place and always knew that Ogunquit would be a significant part of her life.

In 2014, Charlotte made good on her lifelong dream of returning to Ogunquit by joining the Ogunquit Heritage Museum committee. Her passion for preserving the town’s rich history and her dedication to the community quickly became evident. Just a year later, in 2015, she stepped into the role of Administrator, taking over from her sister. Her commitment to the museum and the town’s heritage continued to grow, making her a central figure in preserving Ogunquit’s cultural history.

When Carole Lee Carroll, the long-serving Curator of the Ogunquit Heritage Museum, decided to step down in the spring of 2021, she knew exactly who should succeed her. Charlotte Tragard was the natural choice, and she seamlessly transitioned into the role of Curator. Under her stewardship, the museum has continued to thrive, and Charlotte’s deep connection to the town ensures that Ogunquit’s history is in good hands. And as the saying goes, the rest is history.
