Campaign, we aim to recognize a "local inspiration” - someone who goes above and beyond to
positively impact the people and places around them. For this installment, we are proud to
highlight Tim Roche, a true leader, educator, and community advocate who has left an indelible
mark on Wells, Maine and beyond.
If you’re from the Southern Maine Seacoast, you’re probably already familiar with Tim’s incredible
achievements as the head football coach at Wells High School. Over his 26-year career, Tim has led
the team to 6 state championships, a remarkable feat that highlights his skills as a coach and
mentor. He has earned multiple coaching accolades, including:
- Five-time Campbell Conference Coach of the Year
- Two-time Maine Football Coaches Association coach of the Year
- The National Football Foundation Coach of the Year
- The Maine Principals' Association Coach of the Year
- The National Federation of State High School Associations Coach of the Year
What truly sets Tim apart is his ability to teach his players life lessons that last far beyond their
time on the field. Tim’s coaching philosophy focuses not just on football skills but on developing
character, teaching the importance of service, leadership, and resilience. He instills in his athletes
a deep respect for others, a sense of responsibility toward their community, and the courage to
advocate for their own needs while considering the needs of those around them. His players leave
his program not only as better athletes but as better individuals.
Tim’s commitment to service extends far beyond his role as a coach. He has served the Wells
community in multiple capacities, including five terms as a town selectman and a term as a Maine
State Representative in Augusta. In these positions, Tim was a fierce advocate for veterans and was
recognized by veterans’ groups for his efforts, receiving the honor of "Legislator of the Year."
Tim has always been a staunch supporter of military service members, teaching his athletes to
honor veterans and their families. His dedication to this cause led him to establish Wells High
School’s Military Appreciation Night, an event where local veterans are recognized and celebrated
by the community. The program has become a beloved tradition, providing a meaningful way to
show gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who have served. Tim is also a founding member of
the Mike Guyer Foundation, which is involved in numerous charitable initiatives benefiting Navy
Seals and their families.
Tim has created a culture that has developed a successful football program, that also
permeated the entire community as a whole. He has taught countless individuals what it means to be
a “Warrior” in their personal lives, on the football field, in the classroom and in their communities.

Wells, whether on the football field, in local government, or through his tireless advocacy for
